* LA7DFA *            JX7SIX 50MHZ BEACON            * JX7DFA *

JX7SIX came on air 1'st July 2002. The QTH has clear takeoff in nearly all directions. Hopefully it can be used as 'an early indicator' for 'auroral driven' propagations from N-Eu to W/VE, in addition to the more obvious Auroral-E, Sporadic-E and F2 studies.

JX7SIX will be shipped to LA7DFA for modification and repair in April 2014. In order to get the beacon running on 50.479KHz a new oscillator must be installed.

The ID-keyer is broken, and will be repaired or replaced. I hope to get it back on air later in 2014.

The JX5O 2011 expedition sponsored

an aluminium dipole for the beacon.

The dipole is enhanced by a solid fibreglass rod on the inside. (October 2011)

This photo is taken in January 2013. The antenna and beacon are still being received in Europe all year and Stateside during summer.

CREDITS JX7SIX

SM0KAK installed the 50.079 x-tal and shipped the beacon to Jan Mayen island.
ES1II found the rig, removed the RX, RX/TX switch, made the new "front panel", and converted the TX from 37 to 50 MHz.
SM3EQY kept it as spare for SK3SIX, but donated it for JX7SIX when SM0KAK asked him.
ES5PC designed and programmed the keyer, and did final tuning of the PA.
JX7DFA assembled the beacon in a waterproof box, donated the powersupply, made the first antenna and did the final installation.
Geir Heia
installed the GP antenna (2005) sponsored by Trident antennas UK/G3SED..

2005: UKSMG has kindly sponsored a fibreglass vertical antenna for the beacon.

Trident antennas, UK (G3SED) have made a special rugged 1/4 wave fibreglass GP for the WX condx at the mountaintop QTH.

Propagation from JX7SIX to NA stored by DXsummit in 2005. According to VE9AA and K1TOL, there were almost daily openings in July/August. AE openings sometimes lasted from 22-06Z. Below is a recording of JX7SIX by VE9AA - tnx Mike.

Here is some more info on JX-NA propagations (discussion @ uksmg).
I often used my own call (1992 - 2002) and the CW keyer in a loop on 50.079 as a beacon prior to JX7SIX. The 'JX7DFA beacon' in July 2000 was using 50W and a 6 ele yagi.
